This familiar diplomatic theater conveniently glosses over the fact that a prior UN-mandated international protection for Palestinians was repeatedly blocked by the U.S. at the UN Security Council (e.g., resolutions in 1982, 1987, 1990). Netanyahu's
government has historically—and recently—rejected any external intervention or administration not under its direct control. One might wonder if these 'peace force' talks are merely for show, offering the illusion of action while the actual architects of obstruction continue to greenlight military aid. After all, what good is a 'peace force' when the primary financial backer of one side keeps
