Palestine Statehood: Now With Extra Thoughts & Prayers!

UK, Australia, Canada, France: Suddenly, they've all caught the 'we-should-recognize-Palestine' bug. This after decades of funding the very occupation that made such a 'state' a distant dream. What changed? Did someone finally realize that watching Gaza turn to rubble wasn't a great look? Or did their PR teams just hit panic mode after their constituents noticed the hypocrisy? Of course,

'recognition' doesn't come with, say, actual borders. Or an enforceable right to exist. Or an end to the occupation. It's more like saying, 'Hey, we acknowledge you exist, kinda, while we still send billions in military aid to the folks destroying where you might exist.' It's the diplomatic equivalent of offering someone a job interview after firing them and bulldozing their house. Progress!

Meanwhile, US politicians, still dutifully collecting AIPAC checks, are grappling with the concept. 'A Palestinian state? You mean, like, one that might interfere with our quarterly weapons sales? Impossible!' The only 'state' they seem genuinely interested in recognizing is the state of their campaign coffers. So, what does recognizing a Palestinian state mean? It means headlines. It means

politicians can pat themselves on the back. It means precisely nothing for the people enduring bombs funded by those same 'recognizing' nations. But hey, at least they're thinking about it.
