Pakistan Bombs Afghanistan, Media Forgets History
Al Jazeera dutifully reported Afghanistan's claims of a Pakistani airstrike in Khost, killing nine children and a woman. A tragedy, certainly, but when the global North isn't directly involved, such atrocities often vanish from the breathless 24/7 news cycle. The same media outlets that amplify every 'retaliatory' strike by a Western-backed power suddenly find themselves short on airtime for this
inconvenient truth. Where is the immediate UN Security Council session? The urgent calls for humanitarian aid? One might wonder if the outcry only materializes when a certain geopolitical narrative can be advanced, or when the victims fit a pre-approved demographic. The endless cycle of violence in the region, often destabilized by decades of Western intervention and proxy wars, gets reduced to a
singular, context-free headline. How many 'rules-based orders' can be broken before they're just suggestions?
