Ohio Republicans Redistrict Themselves to Victory, Call it Democracy

The Hill reports Ohio's new map gives the GOP an 'edge' in two districts. An 'edge' being a rather polite term for 'guaranteed seats engineered by partisan operatives.' This isn't newfound strategy; it’s a time-honored tradition in American politics where the party in power redraws lines to ensure its longevity. The Supreme Court has repeatedly punted on partisan gerrymandering, essentially giving

a green light to this manipulation of votes. We might call it an 'edge,' or we might call it subverting the democratic process. When electoral outcomes are largely determined by who controls the pen during redistricting, one wonders what exactly voters are choosing. It certainly isn't a level playing field.
