Oakland Demands Embargo, DC Demands More Campaign Cash
The New Arab reports activists in Oakland took to the port, urging an arms embargo on Israel. A poignant plea, considering the U.S. just greenlit another $14 billion in military aid to Israel, wrapped neatly into a foreign aid package (HR 815, 2024). Not a single mainstream outlet mentioned that 89% of House members who voted 'yes' on this package also received campaign contributions from defense
contractors or pro-Israel PACs. We're told this is about 'security,' but for whom? The security of Raytheon's stock price, perhaps? When protestors demand an embargo, and Congress responds with open checks, one might reasonably ask if the folks making policy are even hearing the people, or just the ringing of campaign donations.
