NYT Reports Trump Fundraisers, Omitting His Own PAC’s Record Deficits
The New York Times teases future fundraising for Donald Trump’s Super PAC, glossing over the inconvenient truth: his past political committees, including his 2020 reelection campaign and Save America PAC, have consistently hemorrhaged cash faster than they could raise it. Remember when Save America PAC blew through tens of millions in donor money on legal fees and other non-campaign expenses,
leaving it with multi-million dollar deficits reported by the Federal Election Commission repeatedly? (According to FEC filings from late 2022 and early 2023, Save America PAC finished multiple reporting periods with cash-on-hand dwarfed by debts). One might wonder if these 'fundraisers' are less about propelling a campaign and more about restocking the coffers of a leadership PAC that has become
a personal expense account. It’s not 'campaign readiness' when the money raised today is just paying off yesterday's bills. Perhaps the NYT should report on the PACs' balance sheets, not just their party plans.
