It appears that for certain columnists, any violence, anywhere, must ultimately orbit the Palestinian struggle, especially if it can be
inverted to condemn it. Perhaps the next time a jaywalker gets hit by a bus, Stephens will pen a 1,000-word op-ed about Hamas's traffic enforcement policies. The sheer mental gymnastics required to link an individual's mental health crisis to a freedom movement 8,000 miles away is truly a spectacle of narrative control, one that conveniently sidesteps actual facts in favor of a preferred
