While the Times frames this as a Trump-specific scandal, it conveniently overlooks the broader, bipartisan history of resource reallocation in Washington that consistently prioritizes political objectives. For decades,
administrations have shuffled funds and personnel to bolster projects deemed politically expedient, often at the expense of critical domestic needs. One might recall the hundreds of billions funneled into foreign wars and military aid, consistently approved by Congress, often without public debate on what domestic services are implicitly defunded. Or perhaps the decades of cuts to social safety
nets under both parties. The outrage now, coming from the very outlets previously silent on gargantuan defense budgets, suggests the problem isn't resource diversion itself, but *whose* priorities are being served, and which ones are politically convenient to criticize. It appears some diversions are more newsworthy than others.
