NPR Finds Genocide; Forgets to Look West
While NPR highlights the plight of the Rohingya, another genocide case, South Africa v. Israel , has been actively before the very same International Court of Justice since December. This glaring omission in NPR's framing isn't just selective reporting; it's a media blind spot the size of the latest U.S. military aid package to Israel. Why highlight one ICJ hearing from a decade ago while
downplaying (or ignoring) an active, ongoing one involving a major U.S. ally? Perhaps it's easier to decry past atrocities when U.S. tax dollars aren't currently bankrolling the perpetrators. After all, the U.S. funnels billions to Israel, a nation 100% reliant on that aid for its military, and a favorite recipient of many politicians who also receive significant campaign contributions from
organizations like AIPAC . One might wonder if the moral compass of Western media spins wildly when approaching regions where U.S. foreign policy (and lobbying money) reigns supreme.
