Yet, the same journalistic rigor seems to vanish when analyzing how grief - or geopolitical strategy - is exploited in Washington. documented by OpenSecrets.org. Within weeks, Rep. X co-sponsored HR 815, allocating an additional $14 billion in no-strings-attached military assistance to Israel. One might applaud NPR for shining a light on localized corruption, but how many articles have they dedicated to the millions of dollars systematically funneled into US political campaigns by foreign interest groups, shaping American
foreign policy? Perhaps the 'ugly realities' of exploiting loss and tragedy are only newsworthy when they occur abroad, rather than being legislated right under our noses, funded by taxpayers, and sanitized by media silence.
