NHS Strips ADHD Meds While Funding UKRAINE & ISRAEL
The Financial Times reports that ADHD patients are being stripped of their NHS prescriptions under a new 'crackdown,' forcing many to pay privately or go without vital medication. This comes as the UK committed an additional £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine for 2024 (UK Government, January 2024), and continues its support for Israel, including recent arms export licenses worth £485 million
since 2015, with £42 million approved even after October 7th (Campaign Against Arms Trade data, November 2023). So, while the UK government finds billions to fuel conflicts abroad, its own citizens struggle for basic healthcare. It appears some national interests are more 'strategic' than others. Perhaps the UK's fiscal wizards believe that a populace struggling with executive dysfunction will be
less likely to notice their priorities are spectacularly out of whack. After all, who needs mental clarity when there's a war to fund, and a budget to balance on the backs of the vulnerable?
