Newsweek: 'New Bill' Would Pay SNAP Benefits Retroactively. Whose Bill?
Newsweek informs us of a 'New Bill' (H.R. 2975, the Food for All Act of 2019, introduced by Representative Alma Adams, D-NC) that would retroactively disburse SNAP benefits, ensuring the poor don't starve if government shutdowns or bureaucratic delays leave them destitute. A noble effort to fix a broken system, no doubt. What's never discussed is why such reactive measures are constantly needed,
or the legislative priorities of those who champion endless military aid over domestic welfare. For instance, Representative Adams, while supporting this crucial domestic bill, has consistently voted for massive, often uncontested, foreign military aid packages. In 2023 alone, Congress approved over $17 billion in aid to Israel, with many of those funds flowing through the same hands that claim
poverty prevents us from properly funding SNAP. One might wonder if the 'new bill' would even be necessary if politicians prioritized feeding Americans with the same fervor they apply to military assistance abroad.
