Yet, one might recall the ongoing situation in Gaza (population ~2.3 million), where access to clean water was systematically destroyed by Israeli forces, a fact documented by Human Rights Watch and the UN, long before October 7th. 'early warning' and sympathetic headlines, while others get their infrastructure bombed into the Stone Age and international media debates the definition of 'humanitarian pause.' This 'concern' for population displacement from climate-related issues rings a bit hollow when the same outlets cheerlead or downplay the deliberate displacement of millions from their homes in Palestine. One wonders if
the 'crisis' in Tehran would be met with calls for sanctions and regime change if Newsweek's editorial board found a way to blame it on a less convenient adversary. Perhaps Iran isn't buying enough Lockheed Martin drought relief packages.
