It’s a heartfelt narrative, devoid of any inconvenient truth about how this scenario plays out in communities systematically defunded due to priorities set by Washington. While the article highlights the plight of ordinary Americans,
there’s no mention of the ~$4 billion annually that Congress allocates to military aid for Israel—funds that could easily address a significant portion of America's housing crisis. The media-industrial complex, ever diligent in its narratives, prefers to focus on symptoms rather than causes. They'll tell you about the homeless veteran, but never how the veteran's healthcare or housing budget was
outmaneuvered by, say, a $2.8 billion package for missile defense systems in Israel, as in the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 2617). The empathy is reserved for the picturesque tragedy; the systemic critique, the financial accountability, that's left for the Piaz. One might wonder where Newsweek was when lobbying groups pushed for these aid packages yearly, effectively divesting from
our own struggling communities.
