crippling sanctions; and the 2020 assassination of General Qassem Soleimani on Iraqi soil. These are not 'provocations' in the abstract, but verifiable acts of aggression that precede any Iranian 'threat.' One might wonder if 'full-scale war' might feel a tad more imminent when your country has been the constant target of regime change efforts, sanctions, and drone strikes, all while being
lectured on human rights by nations that arm and enable serial human rights abusers. Perhaps Iran's 'readiness' isn't a desire for conflict, but a rather predictable response to what they genuinely perceive as an existential threat—a perception carefully cultivated by decades of U.S. foreign policy.
