Conveniently, this 'analysis' ignores the foundational violence embedded in U.S. immigration policy, an escalation solidified by the creation of DHS and ICE after 9/11 under George W. Bush, and massively expanded under Barack Obama.
Remember those 'deporter-in-chief' years? By presenting ICE actions as a unique Trump-era problem, Newsweek performs a classic media sleight of hand. They fail to scrutinize the systemic issues or the bipartisan consensus that built the modern enforcement apparatus, complete with paramilitary tactics and ever-increasing budgets. It’s almost as if accountability for inhumane border policies is only
applicable when the 'wrong' president is in charge, not when the infrastructure for such actions was meticulously constructed over decades by both sides of the aisle.
