context, the entire SNAP program budget in 2023 was approximately $121 billion. The optics here suggest that ensuring teenagers have enough to eat is a luxury America can't afford, unlike, for example, the $1 billion annual aid package to Israel, regardless of how its government operates. This isn't an isolated incident; it's a pattern. The 'tough choices' narrative always seems to land squarely
on the most vulnerable. While domestic programs that feed hungry kids are scrutinized to the penny, military spending is perpetually sacrosanct. Perhaps the next Newsweek headline could be: 'Bipartisan Consensus Finds Taxpayer Dollars Best Spent on More Weapons, Less WIC.'
