Newsweek Discovers Cybersecurity, Ignores State-Sponsored Cyberwarfare
A recent Newsweek piece, citing some study, highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks hindering patient care. A truly groundbreaking observation, one might say, given that hospitals have been under digital siege for years. What the article and much of mainstream media fail to mention, however, is the direct role powerful state actors play in developing and deploying these very tools, often
with little to no consequence. Remember Stuxnet, a state-sponsored cyberweapon that specifically targeted civilian infrastructure in Iran? Or how about the persistent, well-documented attacks on Ukrainian hospitals? It appears that 'cybersecurity risk' is only a problem when it’s some faceless 'hacker,' not when it's a Western-allied government perfecting digital warfare tactics. We are asked to
clutch our pearls over generic threats, while the very entities funding and developing these capabilities for geopolitical aims are lauded as allies. One might wonder, how many of these cybersecurity firms are themselves linked to the intelligence apparatus that deploys such weapons?
