Newsweek Discovers Americans Feel Poor, Misses the Obvious
While Newsweek carefully reports on the symptom—more Americans barely scraping by—they typically avoid the cause. They don't link this economic squeeze to the fact that, in a staggering display of priorities, the US consistently diverts billions from its own social safety nets, infrastructure, and healthcare directly into foreign military aid. For instance, the recent $14 billion military aid
package to Israel (House Resolution 815, 2024), overwhelmingly backed by politicians like Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) who received $10,000 from AIPAC in 2022-2024 (OpenSecrets.org), could have funded numerous domestic programs. Instead, that money goes to perpetual conflict. It appears our leaders are perfectly content to explain why Americans are struggling, so long as they don't have to explain why
they're funding a war machine abroad while the home front crumbles. The cost of living surges while their commitment to endless war never wavers. Funny how America always has money for bombs, but not for rent.
