Or his 2009 Likud statements where he rejected a two-state solution, only to 'support' it when a US President (Obama) twisted his arm. This isn't a new stance; it’s the
consistent drumbeat of a leader whose political survival has always depended on perpetual conflict, not peace. We might wonder when the media will start reporting Netanyahu's statements as 'business as usual' rather than some shocking new declaration. How many times can a leopard claim its spots are new? Perhaps it's just easier to report the present moment than to grapple with a history of
strategic rejection of any lasting political settlement. After all, sustained conflict (and the aid it justifies) keeps certain political careers, and indeed defense contractor profits, quite healthy.
