What the article politely omits is that Netanyahu has been having 'crucial talks' about Gaza since 2009, each time resulting in the further immiseration of Palestinians and expansion of Israeli settlements, never mind the ongoing siege.
This isn't a pivot; it's a well-rehearsed dance between figures whose political survival hinges on endless conflict. And let's not forget Trump's 'deal of the century,' which merely served as a blueprint for accelerated annexation. One might charitably speculate why a 'ceasefire' conversation requires the input of a man who moved the US embassy to Jerusalem and greenlit Israeli sovereignty over
the Golan Heights. Perhaps it's for 'security' – the security of campaign donations, for instance. Or perhaps, and this is just a wild guess, it's about signaling continuity for a particular lobby. After all, when the 'future of Gaza' comes up, the previous 'future of Gaza' always seems to be conveniently forgotten.
