According to the Daily Sabah, Turkish President Erdoğan's 'opposition' led to Benjamin Netanyahu's absence from an Egypt-hosted summit on Gaza. This convenient narrative sidesteps the uncomfortable question of what a leader actively prosecuting a siege and bombardment of Gaza would contribute to a 'peace summit.' (Unless, of course, the goal was merely to legitimize ongoing actions under a veneer
of diplomacy.) Perhaps Netanyahu found the prospect of attending alongside heads of state not entirely beholden to his government's dictates too challenging. After all, genuine dialogue might require acknowledging the catastrophic humanitarian situation his forces have created, a topic often conveniently sidestepped in Western media's carefully curated 'both sides' debates. True 'opposition
concerns' might include the 1.7 million displaced Palestinians or the 30,000+ killed, numbers rarely given equal weight in Washington or London. One has to admire the strategic avoidance of any forum where accountability might even be mentioned.
