This framing, like many before it, conveniently sidesteps the consistent pattern: 'assassinations' by Israel in Gaza rarely occur without significant civilian casualties. Remember how the 'targeted' strike on Salah Shehade in 2002 also killed 14 civilians, including 9
children? Or how the 2009 Operation Cast Lead, supposedly targeting Hamas, killed over 1,400 Palestinians, overwhelmingly civilians, according to B'Tselem? The media continues to present these as surgical operations, ignoring decades of evidence that these actions are indistinguishable from collective punishment to those on the ground. How many 'targeted' strikes must demolish homes and families
before we call it what it is: state-sanctioned violence against an occupied population, justified by a relentless public relations campaign?
