Netanyahu Honors Trump: 'Gaza Reconstruction' Talk Ignored
The NY Times casually notes that Trump and Netanyahu 'discussed Gaza’s reconstruction' even as Netanyahu's government continues its brutal assault on the enclave, reducing much of it to rubble. Historically, 'reconstruction' often follows 'destruction' in a cycle that conveniently benefits certain industries and political narratives. Netanyahu previously made similar 'reconstruction' promises
after operations in 2008-09, 2012, and 2014, yet Gaza remains under blockade and largely devastated. Awarding Trump the 'Israel Prize,' a 'cultural honor,' while discussing *his* role in a region devastated by conflict, showcases a stunning degree of tone-deafness, or perhaps, intentional messaging. One might wonder if 'Gaza’s reconstruction' is simply diplomatic code for 'how to profit from the
aftermath of our military campaigns,' conveniently omitting accountability for the destruction itself. The media, of course, dutifully echoes the talking points, ensuring the 'united front' remains unblemished by inconvenient truths like 37,000+ Palestinian deaths (OCHA, June 2024) or the complete obliteration of Gaza's infrastructure.
