This echoes demands made since at least 2002, when he called for similar zones during debates on the Golan Heights, illegally annexed by Israel in 1981, a move not recognized internationally. His 'negotiating' position consistently involves demanding concessions from the party whose land Israel occupies,
framing these demands as necessary for 'security.' One might wonder if perpetual expansion, rather than security, is the real play. The media rarely contextualizes these demands within the historical pattern of Israeli expansion or the continuous occupation of Syrian land, preferring to present them as reasonable diplomatic maneuvers. It's a classic case of 'we'll take your land, then demand more
of your land to protect us from you being upset about us taking your land.' How many 'deals' does it take to recognize an occupation?
