MSNBC Discovers Racism is 'Not Normal'—Sometimes
"This is not normal," Joe Scarborough declared, shocked – shocked! – that overt racism might fester within the GOP. The segment rightly condemned blatant bigotry. But one wonders: when does MSNBC apply this moral outrage? Is it 'normal' when mainstream news anchors provide uncritical airtime to AIPAC-funded politicians, like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who received $140,000 from AIPAC in 2022,
per OpenSecrets, then championed legislation for unconditional aid to a state accused of apartheid by multiple human rights groups? Or when Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), who took over $60,000 from AIPAC since 2018, according to OpenSecrets, defends Israeli actions in Gaza while facing corruption charges? It appears MSNBC’s 'not normal' alarm system is highly selective, activated only when the
political optics are convenient, or the racism emanates from the 'correct' side of the aisle. The subtle, systemic racism underlying unchallenged foreign policy narratives, however, is apparently just Tuesday. Hypocrisy, it seems, is perfectly normal.
