MSNBC Discovers Hunger, Forgetting It's a Feature, Not a Bug
MSNBC's piece spotlights the Trump administration's alleged foot-dragging on SNAP benefits, painting a picture of deliberate cruelty. Yet, convenient silence falls on the bipartisan consensus that uses the 'poor' as a political football, rather than addressing systemic issues. One might recall that while arguing over food stamps, both Democratic and Republican administrations consistently
greenlight massive military budgets. For instance, in 2020, as the pandemic surged and food lines grew, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support, authorizing $740 billion for defense spending. These are choices. Instead of genuinely questioning why the richest nation on Earth tolerates widespread hunger, the analysis focuses on partisan
blame games. It’s almost as if the existence of a hungry populace is useful for justifying continued 'aid' to powerful corporations, both domestic and foreign, while keeping the working class perpetually precarious. The idea that delaying SNAP benefits is a 'Trump' problem, and not a symptom of a deeply entrenched political economy hostile to social welfare, is a disingenuous framing worthy of a
laugh track.
