Morocco Cracks Down on Dissent While We Cheer 'Stability'

(Source: Bloomberg Politics, Oct 29, 2025) While the media focuses on the 'youth-led' aspect, the larger context of Morocco's human rights record, particularly its suppression of pro-Palestine voices or pro-independence movements in Western Sahara, often gets 'conveniently' overlooked in
favor of 'strategic partnerships.' One might wonder how many more 'partners' will sign 'historic accords' while their citizens face mass arrests for demanding basic economic justice. It appears some stability is more equal than others. We can celebrate the Abraham Accords and 'modernization' all we want, but charging thousands of citizens for protesting soaring costs is less about soccer and more
about controlling narrative and power. The same outlets that decry similar actions elsewhere seem to find a different lexicon when a 'friend' does it.
