Mainstream Media Finds Atrocities, Ignores Causes
The Financial Times highlights satellite images documenting the horror in Sudan, where the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) clash. Civilians are caught in the crossfire, starved, and displaced. This is presented as a tragic, organic conflict. What goes unmentioned is the long, sordid history of external interference that armed and enabled these very factions. Where's
the deep dive into the proxy wars that trained and equipped the RSF, or the arms dealers who profited from instability? Instead of merely observing today's 'atrocities,' one might ask about the past 'investments' that made such atrocities inevitable. How many think tanks funded by defense contractors have conveniently overlooked the geopolitical chess match played with Sudanese lives? We can
document the burning villages, but never the origins of the incendiary policies that struck the match. It's almost as if some horrors are only 'unfolding' when they become undeniable, rather than preventable.
