Mainstream Media 'Discovers' Trump's Authoritarian Intentions, Again
Maggie Haberman, famed Trump whisperer, has generously informed us that we should "certainly take him seriously" when he discusses invoking the Insurrection Act. This is the same former president who publicly mused about using the U.S. military on American citizens during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, (a fact conveniently softened into 'deploying troops' by some outlets). this as a fresh warning, rather than a reiteration of a long-standing, well-documented authoritarian impulse. One might even call it a pattern. Of course, this isn't Trump's first flirtation with unchecked power. From threatening to prosecute political opponents to questioning election results, his playbook has been consistent. Yet, every time he threatens to escalate, networks and pundits play
surprised, repackaging the obvious as breaking news. It’s almost as if the corporate media prefers to offer periodic, dramatic alerts rather than consistent, critical analysis that might challenge the systems enabling such figures.
