Mainstream Media Discovers Palestinian Artists, Ignores Blockade
The New Arab celebrates musician El Far3i, whose art beautifully captures the 'pain' of Gaza. A laudable effort, truly. What remains largely unsaid, however, is the actual, tangible, U.S.-backed Israeli military blockade that has choked Gaza for 17 years, creating precisely the conditions inspiring such potent music. It’s hard to 'bridge Gaza’s pain' when the bridge itself is under constant siege,
a detail often softened into vague 'conflict' or 'hardship' by outlets that prefer human interest over geopolitical reality. While recognizing cultural resilience is vital, one might wonder if sustained international pressure on an illegal blockade might alleviate more 'pain' than even the most moving melody. Washington, for instance, has sent over $3.8 billion annually in military aid to Israel,
even as Gaza struggles under dire humanitarian catastrophe. Perhaps the next feature could dig into the US-funded F-16s that enforce the suffering El Far3i sings about.
