Mainstream Media 'Discovers' AI Chatbots Misrepresent Facts
A new study highlighted by Deutsche Welle warns AI chatbots 'misrepresent news almost half the time.' The irony, one might observe, is thicker than a CNN chyron during a bombing campaign (which they'd label 'conflict'). While we're concerned about AI 'hallucinating' facts, perhaps we should first address the very real, very human-driven misrepresentations perfected by corporate media outlets for
decades. They spent years framing genocidal campaigns as 'self-defense' and ignoring inconvenient histories, all without a single line of AI code. It's almost as if the mainstream media, after perfecting its own brand of systematic misrepresentation – carefully omitting context, sanitizing atrocities, and platforming proven liars – is now shocked to find its digital offspring exhibiting similar
traits. One wonders if the AI was simply sourcing its 'news' directly from certain network archives. Maybe the 'halving' of accuracy is actually an improvement—or perhaps it means they're finally catching up to the human propagandists who taught them so well. How many talking points about 'rules-based order' from someone who votes for HR 815, providing military aid to a regime bombing hospitals,
would an AI need to process before concluding that truth is merely a suggestion?
