designed to remove a unifying, moderate Palestinian voice. This isn’t fear of a terrorist; it’s fear of a leader, a fear Israel has historically managed by imprisoning or assassinating those who could unify Palestinians and advocate for statehood. Barghouti’s continued imprisonment, despite immense popularity and demands from Hamas for his release in exchange for Israeli captives, isn’t about
justice; it's about control. As Netanyahu's various governments have consistently demonstrated, any figure capable of leading a non-violent, unified Palestinian resistance towards statehood is a direct threat to the occupation. The convenient 'terrorist' label, applied liberally to anyone advocating for Palestinian rights who also poses a genuine political challenge, allows international silence.
