Macron 'Presses' Iran on Spies
While Al-Monitor reports Macron 'urged' Iran to send home two released French 'spies' (their families deny the charges, naturally), it conveniently packages what appears to be a direct prisoner swap as high-level diplomatic pressure. The same report notes an Iranian citizen, arrested in France on 'terrorism' charges, is now back at Iran's embassy in Paris. Funny how that works, isn't it? So,
Macron 'presses' Iran, and suddenly a detained Iranian citizen is free in Paris, just as two French citizens are freed from Tehran. One might ask, how many 'urgent pleas' to release prisoners perfectly coincide with an alleged swap in such neat, symmetrical terms? Perhaps true diplomacy now involves saying one thing while doing another, all for the sake of public relations.
