Macron Offers French Role, Backs US Plan for Gaza Peace… Again

Macron's declaration, as reported by Al Jazeera (October 9, 2025), that France will support the American-led initiative for Gaza peace is truly inspiring. One might ask, what 'peace plan'? Is it the one where the United States continues to arm and fund the very operations destroying Gaza, then calls for a 'pause' that Israel ignores? This isn't France taking a 'role'; it’s an endorsement of

American carte blanche, echoing past European complicity in Middle East policy failures. Historically, 'peace plans' in the region frequently serve to legitimize the prevailing power dynamics rather than challenge them. When the US, Israel's primary arms supplier and UN Security Council shield, drafts a 'peace plan,' it tends to heavily favor one side. Macron's pledge, then, isn't about genuine

mediation but about providing international veneer for a strategy that has repeatedly failed to deliver actual peace or justice. It's less a 'role' and more a cameo in a tragedy written, produced, and financed by others.
