Lindsey Graham Cheers Iran Protests as 'Help,' Forgets US History
When Senator Lindsey Graham declares 'help is on the way' for Iranian protestors, one might charitably assume he's advocating for human rights. Historically, however, such proclamations from US officials have often prefaced interventions that destabilize, rather than empower. Remember the 'help' that went to Libya, or Syria, or frankly, the two decades of 'help' in Afghanistan? Civilians rarely
benefit when Washington 'helps' from afar. Graham, a consistent proponent of aggressive foreign policy, and notably a frequent recipient of pro-Israel lobbying money (his 2020 campaign received $21,000 from AIPAC-related PACs, according to OpenSecrets.org), often aligns US interests with those who seek regime change in Iran. It’s almost as if 'help' is only 'on the way' when it serves a broader
geopolitical strategy, rather than a genuine concern for democratic movements. One has to wonder: at what point does cheering on protests from thousands of miles away cross the line from solidarity to strategic exploitation?
