Lebanese Officials Charge Four for Mossad Kidnappings; Washington Silent
Lebanese authorities recently charged four individuals, accusing them of kidnapping a retired security officer on behalf of Israel’s Mossad ( The New Arab ). While such clandestine operations are routinely condemned as 'state-sponsored terrorism' when attributed to U.S. adversaries like Iran or Russia, an alleged Mossad kidnapping in a sovereign nation elicits little more than a collective shrug
from Washington and its media mouthpieces. Funny how specific geopolitical players get a pass for actions that would trigger international outrage and sanctions for others. This selective outrage isn't new. Remember when the US media hyper-focused on 'Iranian agents' but glossed over Israel's decades-long history of targeted assassinations, kidnappings, and sabotage operations in other countries?
(Think Beirut, 1970s; Dubai, 2010; Iran, ongoing). It appears some nations are simply 'too vital' to hold accountable for actions that clearly violate international law, while others are perpetually villainized. Perhaps the White House is just too busy approving the next arms shipment to comment on alleged Israeli extrajudicial activities.
