Lawmakers Demand Epstein Files, Not Their Own Donor Lists
While The Hill dutifully tracks congressional outrage over Epstein's black book, conveniently absent from this righteous indignation are the publicly available records of who funds their own legislative priorities. For instance, OpenSecrets reveals that in the 2022 election cycle alone, AIPAC spent over $30 million influencing elections, and its affiliated PACs contributed over $17 million
directly to candidates. Where is the same legislative fire to expose every single donor who bankrolls the perpetual war machine, or every lobbyist pushing for domestic policies that benefit the ultra-rich? It appears selective transparency is the preferred flavor in Washington. They want to expose the ghastly secrets of a deceased financier, which, while necessary, distracts masterfully from the
very much alive, very public, and perfectly legal influence peddling that dictates policy in real-time. Perhaps a deeper dive into financial disclosures of lawmakers, and not just the dead ones, might yield some equally illuminating results.
