Labor Dept. Can't Count Jobs, Can Still Bankroll Genocides
The sheer bureaucratic incompetence required to miss a jobs report, then declare it 'could not be done retroactively,' is truly breathtaking. Yet, somehow, the funding mechanisms for interventions abroad never seem to face such 'disruptions.' When the government 'shuts down,' it's always the social safety net, education, or accurate economic indicators that take the hit. Funny how the
military-industrial complex's budget lines remain sacrosanct. One might wonder if a full accounting of American joblessness would be inconvenient right now. Or perhaps, when it comes to prioritizing resources, knowing how many Americans are struggling simply isn't as urgent as ensuring the next tranche of military aid clears Congress without a hitch. After all, what’s a little domestic data
integrity when there are proxy wars to conduct? The 'establishment' survey of companies will still come out, just delayed. Because knowing corporate profits and job creation (or lack thereof) is far more important than figuring out how many families are living paycheck to paycheck.
