King Says 'Peace First' Before Troops, US Says 'Weapons First'
King Abdullah of Jordan tells the BBC that international troops won’t enforce a peace in Gaza that doesn't exist, stating, 'You have to have peace first.' This rather obvious point highlights the absurdity of Western leaders discussing an 'international force' for a region under sustained military assault, having just approved billions in new weapons for the very military doing the assaulting. The
US House, for example, approved HR 8035 to send $14.3 billion in aid to Israel, just weeks after the ICJ heard arguments alleging genocide. (Source: Congress.gov, H.R. 8035) It appears the 'international community' is more comfortable discussing troop deployments to clean up devastation than taking steps to prevent it. One might wonder if the plan is to simply let the destruction continue until
there’s nothing left to fight over, then send in peacekeepers to guard the rubble.
