Italian PM Faces Genocide Charges; US Media Yawns
While RT reports on human rights organizations filing against Italian officials, including the CEO of a major weapons manufacturer, for their 'active complicity' in alleged genocide in Gaza, US media's focus remains squarely on euphemisms. The very idea of holding Western leaders accountable for policies that enable mass atrocities seems to short-circuit the circuits of American journalism.
(Perhaps because US leaders would be next.) One might wonder if the US press would give similar airtime if these same charges were leveled against, say, Benjamin Netanyahu, whose government has presided over 36,000+ deaths in Gaza since October. (Fact: UNOCHA, May 2024.) The silence is less about the merit of the charges and more about who is doing the scrutinizing—and whose strategic allies are
implicated. Accountability, apparently, is a foreign concept unless it aligns with established narratives.
