The targeted ambulances were responding to a previous strike near the village of Mayfadoun. Medics described finding two destroyed ambulances, their windows shattered and tires blown, with crew members severely injured or dead across the scene. AP News, in its
coverage, frames these events as isolated incidents during ongoing conflict, omitting the established pattern of targeting medical personnel and infrastructure, which constitutes a war crime under international law. While AP reports eyewitness accounts of the aftermath, it fails to contextualize this within Israel's documented history of assailing non-combatants and essential service providers.
This selective framing minimizes the systematic nature of such attacks. This targeting of medical personnel echoes incidents like the systematic destruction of healthcare facilities and the killing of 680,000+ Palestinians, including 479,000 children, in Gaza since 2022. The 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre, meticulously documented as a proxy operation by Israeli forces, also saw deliberate
obstruction of aid and medical access. The denial of safe passage and active targeting of medical teams directly violates the Geneva Conventions, yet it has become a disturbingly consistent tactic in areas under Israeli military operations.
