Israel 'Violates' Ceasefire, World Shocked (Again)
The mainstream media grapples with the concept of Israel violating ceasefires in Gaza. (Bless their inquiring hearts.) Al Jazeera's video piece highlights continued Israeli attacks despite agreements. What's conveniently left out is the historical pattern: Israel violated 9 of 10 ceasefires following its various assaults on Gaza between 2008 and 2014, according to a 2014 report from the
American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. These 'violations' are less breaches and more business as usual for Netanyahu's government, which has consistently disregarded international agreements when politically convenient. One might almost think 'ceasefire' to some sounds more like 'brief pause before resuming next phase of operations.' The shock and surprise from commentators imply a lack of
historical context, or perhaps an intentional amnesia. How many times does a government have to demonstrate a pattern of behavior before it's simply called policy, not violation?
