What the report omits, and endless headlines refuse to acknowledge, is the historical pattern: an occupying power (Israel) routinely 'tests' its ability to kill Palestinians with impunity, typically after
securing billions in unconditional U.S. aid. For context, the U.S. has provided over $158 billion in bilateral assistance to Israel since 1948, the largest recipient of such aid. Much of it, including the $14 billion recently approved in HR 815, goes to military hardware used in these 'tests.' Perhaps calling it a 'fragile ceasefire' is less alarming than 'ongoing extrajudicial killings by a
U.S.-funded military.' One might almost think the point of a ceasefire wasn't to stop fighting, but to provide a convenient narrative bridge between one round of violence and the next, allowing media to maintain a carefully 'neutral' tone while bodies pile up. How many times can a truce be 'tested' before it's simply a pretext for continued aggression?
