Conveniently unmentioned is that Beirut is the capital of Lebanon, a sovereign nation. This isn't Israel's first stroll into Lebanese airspace; the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the 2006 conflict were also framed as 'self-defense,' leading to thousands of civilian deaths and
widespread destruction. One might wonder at what point 'self-defense' becomes an unlimited license for cross-border assassinations into nations Israel is not officially at war with. Is Lebanese airspace merely an extension of Israeli strategic interest now? The international community, often quick to condemn similar actions by less favored states, offers only crickets when the US's closest ally
