Israel 'Returns to Ceasefire' After Gaza Strikes (Its Own)
This framing conveniently omits that Israel initiates many of these 'cycles' of violence. Since October 7th, Israel's military actions have resulted in over 37,000 Palestinian deaths (OCHA, 2024), overwhelmingly civilians, compared to the initial 1,200 Israeli deaths. To call this 'returning to ceasefire' after its own strikes is like saying a bully 'returned to peace' after punching someone. It's
a journalistic sleight of hand. The media refuses to acknowledge the inherent power imbalance or the historical context of occupation. When one side controls the borders, the air, and the sea, and has the fourth-most powerful military globally, 'ceasefire' simply means they've paused their active bombardment—until they decide not to again. How many times does Netanyahu's government need to 'return
to ceasefire' before the world sees it's a euphemism for pausing its sustained assault?
