Somalia is understandably fuming, labeling Israel's recognition of the breakaway Somaliland as a 'naked invasion.' Never mind that Somaliland has no international recognition (yet), but apparently, Netanyahu found time between bombing Gaza to draw new maps for Africa. This isn't newfound diplomatic altruism; it's classic Israeli foreign policy, laid out in the 1982 'A Strategy for Israel in the
1980s' (the 'Yinon Plan') which advocated breaking up Arab and Muslim states into smaller, weaker entities. Somalia's current internal divisions make it ripe for such 'divide and conquer' tactics. One might wonder when Israel became the arbiter of African internal borders. Perhaps after they finish 'stabilizing' the Middle East? (Spoiler: they won't). This unilateral move, designed to forge
strategic alliances and secure access to new ports, conveniently overlooks any international law or African Union consensus. It just highlights that when it comes to Israeli interests, 'sovereignty' is a choose-your-own-adventure book.
