Israel Offers Ukrainians Asylum — Back Home
According to Haaretz , Israel plans to revoke temporary protection status for Ukrainian refugees next month, potentially deporting 25,000 people back to a war zone. This is the same government that, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), received substantial military aid from the US , much of which fuels the conflict in Ukraine indirectly by freeing up US
resources. One might wonder where the 'humanitarian' element of that aid goes once it's no longer politically advantageous. While Western leaders decry Russia's actions in Ukraine, those same voices often remain conspicuously silent when Israel plans to send war refugees *back* into that conflict. This selective indignation highlights a pattern: some conflicts are worthy of constant, vociferous
condemnation and billions in foreign aid, while others— or the inconvenient consequences of an ally's actions—are met with a collective shrug. The international community, after all, only cares about war crimes when committed by the 'wrong' side. How many humanitarian crises are too many for our moral compass to consistently point North?
