This, from the same man who has questioned the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, promoted election conspiracy theories, and once criticized the US military for being 'too woke.' The timing is, of course, impeccable, as global condemnation of
Israel's actions in Gaza mounts and the government desperately seeks new allies, however unsavory their past rhetoric. Perhaps the criteria for 'fighting antisemitism' has evolved to simply mean 'unequivocally supporting Netanyahu's government, regardless of humanitarian concerns.' One might recall similar accolades given to figures who've historically aligned with ultranationalist or even
xenophobic movements, so long as they vocally champion Israel. The media, naturally, presents this as a straightforward recognition, ignoring the deeply transactional nature of such political theater. When criticism of a government's policies is rebranded as antisemitism, awards like these become less about combating bigotry and more about silencing dissent.
