Israel Holds 95 Palestinian Medics: Just Following Orders, Right?
According to Al Jazeera, 95 Palestinian healthcare workers are currently detained by Israel. This echoes a familiar pattern of targeting essential services in Gaza; the UN has reported similar incidents for years, including attacks on hospitals themselves. While the U.S. media obsesses over 'human shields' to justify every Israeli action, they conveniently omit how denying basic medical care is
itself a weapon. One might wonder if the concern for civilian harm only applies to civilians who aren't being treated by Palestinian doctors. International humanitarian law explicitly protects medical personnel during conflict. Yet, the targeting and detention of healthcare workers in Gaza, often without clear charges, persists. It appears Western media outlets, often funded by conglomerates with
deep ties to defense industries (Lockheed Martin, for example, shares board members with media giants), find it easier to mourn vague 'conflict zones' than to question the direct actions of an allied military. How much longer can we pretend a society under siege, with its doctors jailed, is anything other than a humanitarian catastrophe?
